CarbonTP is proud to announce that its affiliated entity, CarbonCQ, has been awarded CCS permit G-15-AP in the Australian Government’s 2023 GHG Offshore Acreage release. G-15-AP is an exciting opportunity to progress CCS in Western Australia, being located only 120km offshore from the major industrial ports of Dampier and Port Hedland.

CarbonCQ participated in the Australian Government’s 2023 GHG Offshore Acreage release, applying for GHG23-3 in November 2023 as part of a joint bidding group. In August 2024, the joint venture was awarded this acreage in the form of permit G-15-AP. The G-15-AP project, is a collaborative joint venture, operated by InCapture (75% equity) alongside partners SKearthon (20% equity) and CarbonCQ (5% equity). CarbonCQ retains an option to increase its interest to 10%.

CarbonCQ’s partners bring complementary skills, resources and access to critical project elements, which together strengthens the group’s ability to mature the project to development.

The G-15-AP joint venture is committed to the identification of opportunities to reduce carbon emissions for hard-to-abate industries. The industrial areas near the Burrup Peninsula have multiple emissions sources at varying levels of CO2 concentration, with limited existing options for abatement.

The joint venture also recognises that G-15-AP has the potential to sequester large quantities of imported GHG emissions from Australia’s major international trading partners. The joint venture is planning to develop a large-scale commercially viable CO2 storage facility in the G-15-AP permit area with injection rates initially 3-6 Mtpa CO2 expected to be achievable.

CarbonTP is proud to announce that its affiliated entity, Green Steel of WA [GSWA], has taken another significant step forward by securing a site for its flagship 400,000 tonne-per-year green steel mill in Collie.

The site, located adjacent to the Coolangatta Industrial Estate, just outside the town of Collie in Western Australia was chosen for its proximity to road, rail and high voltage electrical infrastructure (with access to zero carbon energy). These attributes, combined with Collie’s highly skilled industrial workforce and Collie’s Transition make it the ideal location for the plant.

This follows the recent award of a $2.7 million funding from the WA Government through the Collie Futures Fund, administered by the Department of Premier of Cabinet (DPC) and the South West Development Commission (SWDC).

The Collie-based green steel recycling mill will convert Western Australian scrap steel into rebar for local and international consumption. The plant will be WA’s first steel mill and Australia’s first green steel mill.

In addition to creating a credible opportunity for the transition of one of WA’s coal and industrial townships, the project is the company’s first step towards creating a genuine steel manufacturing industry in Western Australia. GSWA is committed to working with local businesses and contractors to ensure the local economy and community benefits from this project.

Green Steel of WA has secured a technology partnership with global steelmaking leader Danieli, which has been providing innovative steelmaking solutions around the world for more than 100 years. During this time, Danieli has delivered more than 100 turnkey plants, giving them unparalleled experience in this field.

CarbonTP is proud to announce that its affiliated entity, Green Steel of WA [GSWA], has been granted State Planning Approval after the WA’s Regional Development Assessment Panel gave its unanimous approval for the project.

Achieving this key milestone takes GSWA one step closer towards making our state’s first steel mill a reality and we hope, our first move towards creating a much larger green steel industry for WA.

The Collie Steel Mill project, estimated at $400 million, represents a significant leap toward establishing Western Australia’s first green steel mill and creating a sustainable steel industry for the state.  Located near the town of Collie, the project is expected to generate over 500 new long-term positions for local workers most impacted by the energy transition as well as contribute $2.5B to WA’s economy.

In collaboration with the state government and major industries, GSWA is actively promoting the local recycling of scrap steel and advocating for the use of the locally produced “Collie Green Rebar” in major projects throughout the state.
