March 2025 – ERA Publishes CarbonTP Expert Report Underpinning Future of Gas
4 Mar 2025
The Economic Regulation Authority (ERA) has published the CarbonTP report on the future of gas which was included as part of Dampier Bunbury Pipeline’s (DBP) submission for the sixth access arrangement period (AA6).
In 2024 AGIG, the owner of DBP, engaged CarbonTP to undertake long run demand forecasting for the DBP to better understand the future utilisation of their asset in the context of the Energy Transition.
The work required an understanding of all the major drivers of gas consumption across gas power generation and industry and the potential for those consumers to transition away from gas.
CarbonTP in collaboration with Sunrise Energy Group undertook scenario modelling of gas consumption based on different possible outcomes for pipeline connected gas power generation in relation to development of renewables and storage in the SWIS, combined with possible transition pathways and timelines for large industrial users to move away from gas.
The CarbonTP report and other documents related to AA6 can be downloaded from the ERA website via the following link: Access Arrangement for Period commencing 2026
